April Is Delivering

March 2026 was historic — Crimson Desert, Death Stranding 2, Slay the Spire 2, and a new Steam concurrent user record. April was always going to have a hard time following that. But three weeks in, April has held its own with a remarkable run of indie and AA releases that have flown under the radar for many players still working through March's backlog.

Here is every notable Steam release from April so far, and whether each one deserves your time.

Week 1 (April 1-6)

Road to Vostok — April 7 A single-player survival extraction shooter set in a post-apocalyptic border zone between Finland and Russia. Think Escape from Tarkov without other players. Dynamic weather, full day-night cycle, and permadeath. One of the most unique FPS premises of the year.

Soulmask 1.0 — April 10 The survival crafting RPG with mask-based progression hit its full 1.0 release after a successful Early Access period. Strong reviews from players who enjoyed the Early Access version.

Week 2 (April 7-13)

Temtem: Swarm 1.0 — April 2 The Pokemon-like bullet hell roguelite from Crema hit its 1.0 release with full co-op support. If you enjoyed Vampire Survivors and want a monster-themed version, this is worth a look.

Darwin's Paradox — April 2 A Konami-published action-adventure puzzle platformer where you play as an octopus escaping an industrial complex. A Metal Gear Solid-inspired demo is available free on Steam.

Week 3 (April 14-19)

REPLACED — April 14 Eight years in development. Metacritic 79. A stunning cyberpunk 2.5D platformer with some of the most beautiful pixel art ever created. An AI consciousness trapped in a human body navigates a retro-futuristic city. 10-15 hours.

MOUSE: P.I. For Hire — April 16 Metacritic 81. A rubber hose animation FPS voiced by Troy Baker set in 1930s cartoon Mouseburg. Jazz soundtrack, hand-drawn animation, 12-20 hours of detective work and gunplay. Strong reviews across the board.

Pragmata — April 17 Metacritic 86. Overwhelmingly Positive on Steam with 97% approval. Capcom's best new IP in years — a sci-fi shooter where hacking and shooting combine into something genuinely fresh. 12-16 hours. Already one of the best-rated Capcom games ever on Steam.

Windrose Early Access — April 16 An open-world pirate survival crafting game that launched to 69,000 peak players and 88% positive Steam reviews. If survival crafting is your genre, this is the surprise hit of April.

Still Coming in April

Titanium Court — April 23 A surreal strategy game described as being for clowns and criminals, with strong demo buzz.

Invincible VS — April 30 The highly anticipated 2D fighting game set in the Invincible universe, featuring 3v3 tag battles with characters like Atom Eve and Omni-Man.

Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred — April 28 Blizzard's second major Diablo 4 expansion brings two new classes (Paladin and Warlock), the new Skovos region, a complete skill tree overhaul, and fishing.

The Backlog Problem Gets Real

April has added at least 5-7 genuinely worthwhile games to your potential backlog in under three weeks. Combined with March's releases that most players haven't finished, the average Steam library is growing faster than ever.

The solution isn't to stop buying games — it's to be strategic about what you actually start and finish.
