Today's Biggest Launch: Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

The headline release of August 6 is Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls — Arc System Works' 4v4 Marvel tag fighter developed in partnership with Sony. It's on Steam now at $59.99 with a 20-character roster, Episode Mode story content, and online ranked play. The open beta had PC optimization issues that Arc System Works has committed to fixing; launch day will tell us whether the patch landed.
Also launching today on Steam:
- Sovereign Tower — A visual novel with medieval setting and choice-driven branching narrative. Releases August 6 worldwide.
- Echobreaker — An action indie releasing today. Limited pre-release coverage; worth watching early community impressions before purchasing.
- Fantasy Network — A casual game releasing August 6. Early Access title with a fantasy theme.
Coming in the Next Two Weeks
- August 11 — Mortal Shell II early access (Devout Edition): Devout Edition owners get three days ahead of the standard launch. If you pre-ordered the $59.99 Devout Edition, you can start playing August 17.

- August 13 — Low-Budget Repairs: The second most-anticipated Steam game of August with 52,000+ followers. A comedy home repair simulator that's flown under the radar of mainstream coverage despite significant community interest.

- August 17 — Mortal Shell II Early Access begins
- August 20 — Mortal Shell II standard launch: The Souls-like sequel with a compact open world, 60+ dungeons, and no stamina gauge. $49.99 standard, $59.99 Devout Edition.
- August 27 — Star Wars Zero Company: XCOM developers build a Clone Wars turn-based tactics game with Anakin Skywalker, permadeath, and Mass Effect-style squad relationships.

The August Picture in Full
August 2026 is, as PC Gamer put it, "the calm before the storm" — a solid month of mid-tier and niche releases building toward what looks like a very busy autumn with Control: Resonant, Marvel's Wolverine, and GTA 6's console launch all on the horizon.
The smart backlog move for August: pick one of the month's major releases (Mortal Shell II or Zero Company for single-player, Marvel Tōkon for multiplayer), buy anything else on discount, and save wallet space for September.
