Soulframe

From the Warframe Studio — A Fantasy RPG

Soulframe by Digital Extremes arrived in the Steam top 20 wishlisted games in August 2026. The game is set to "Coming soon," but with such a reputable team behind the development wheel, it comes as no surprise that it managed to breach the top 20.

Digital Extremes built Warframe — a free-to-play action game that launched in 2013 and still maintains an active player base over a decade later, a feat almost no live-service game achieves. That track record is the main reason Soulframe is generating top-20 wishlist interest before a release date has even been confirmed.

What Is Soulframe?

Soulframe is a fantasy action RPG — a significant departure from Warframe's sci-fi setting and shooter-focused gameplay. Where Warframe is fast, vertical, and science fiction, Soulframe appears to be grounded, melee-focused, and steeped in dark fantasy aesthetics.

The game draws visual inspiration from Studio Ghibli's environmental design — ancient forests, decaying kingdoms, and nature reclaiming civilization. The tone is melancholic rather than grimdark, which gives it a distinct feel from the usual Western dark fantasy reference points.

Combat is melee-focused with an emphasis on deliberate, read-the-enemy engagement rather than Warframe's bullet-and-blade frenzy. The pacing looks closer to FromSoftware than to Warframe's kinetic flow, though Digital Extremes has consistently described it as its own thing rather than a Souls-like.

Why the Wishlist Numbers Make Sense

Digital Extremes doesn't have a track record of releasing bad games — Warframe's sustained decade-plus of updates is evidence of a studio that knows how to build and maintain a game. Soulframe inherits that reputation before a single review has been written.

The fantasy setting also taps a different audience than Warframe's sci-fi shooter crowd. Players who bounced off Warframe because of its genre may find Soulframe's dark fantasy framing more appealing, while existing Warframe players are likely to follow the studio out of brand loyalty.

When Does It Launch?

No release date has been confirmed. The "Coming soon" listing on Steam means Digital Extremes hasn't committed to a window publicly. Wishlist it now so Steam notifies you when a date drops.
